There comes a moment in every family’s life when the centre of gravity, the quiet heart that held generations together, takes the final bow. The passing of a mother, especially one who has lived a long life, is both an ending and a blessing: an ending to a life of devotion, and a blessing for all the love that has been sown across children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Loss touches every one of us sooner or later. Yet in the quiet that follows, we find ourselves held by the very legacy our mothers leave behind: unity, kindness, and the strength to continue. Perhaps that is the final gift of a mother: she teaches us how to live, and in her passing, how to lean on each other. Her departure reminds us of a simple truth: none of us walks alone, for every child at some point comes to know the quiet sorrow of losing a parent.
In recent times, and indeed over the years, many in our RCQ family have experienced the loss of a parent.
Our hearts and thoughts are with every family that mourns and carries the quiet ache of losing a parent.■

The guest speaker, Mr. Albert Cheng (introduced by Eric Chan), shared an insightful perspective on gold as an investment asset, drawing on his long professional experience in the field. His reflections highlighted both the historical resilience of gold and its evolving role in a diversified portfolio. Members appreciated the clarity and depth of his remarks.

The regular meeting on 10 November was chaired by President Marcel. Our guest speaker was Mr Azuma Tomoaki, a Japanese film director, who shared about his documentary on the Pearl Legacy Project, a cultural initiative spearheaded by Rtn Maiko. His presentation offered members a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the project, highlighting both the artistry of film-making and the enduring heritage of pearl cultivation. The mission is to educate the public about pearl grading and to share the stories behind pearls, the nature that shapes them, and the devotion of those who have dedicated their lives to the art and culture of pearl cultivation. Azuma presented the first edition of the Pearl Legacy Tour Video created under Mr. Tomoaki's direction.

Past President Sabrina, now based in Thailand, joined us at the meeting for the induction of the new members, including Andy, whom she proposed. It was a lovely moment that also allowed the club to celebrate her PHF+5 recognition in person.
The speaker of the evening, Dr. Resshaya Murukesu, Research Fellow at TUMCREATE, delivered an insightful presentation on “LightSPAN: Optimizing Light Exposure for Health in Ageing”.

At the weekly meeting on 24 November, PP Marcel hosted the club. The speaker of the evening was Rotarian Robert Jeker, who delivered his classification talk, sharing his professional experience and insights on wealth management.
Many of our members had the privilege of meeting the late Madam Kiang Kok Yee over the years, especially during Chinese New Year celebrations, when her home was open to relatives, friends, and even friends of family members. She is fondly remembered as a gracious, gentle and welcoming presence, someone whose kindness extended effortlessly to all who crossed her path.
As we reflect in this bulletin on the universal journey of losing a parent, RCQ members hold the Teo family close in their thoughts. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to PP PokZin and Avery, PP Jack and Ailay, their children, and all members of the Teo family, standing with them in remembrance of a life lived with warmth, dignity, kindness and generosity.

November 24, 2025
On Saturday, 24 November, Part I of President Marcel’s major project came to life, a day of nature, fellowship, and pure delight. RCQ members spent a warm, joy-filled outing with seniors from the Active Ageing Centre at Bird Paradise, sharing moments of discovery and companionship throughout the visit.
PP Mavis, PP Linda, and newly inducted member Rtn Michelle travelled to Taxia on November 24th and shall stay there until December 5th.
Taxia holds a special place in RCQ’s story. It is the ancestral village of the Teo family, and over the years, RCQ members have come to know it through the generosity of PP PokZin and PP Jack, who have invited the club to join their family visits on several occasions. Through these ties, RCQ has supported community-focused projects at the village school, nurturing a simple but meaningful connection with Taxia and its young learners.
During their stay PP Mavis, PP Linda and Rtn Michelle will spend the days with the local school community where they join classes and take part in teaching English, games and activities, and participate in all sort of other activities going on in the village.
