One of the clearest measures of how civilized a society is lies in the way it treats its most vulnerable: children, the elderly, and those who are materially deprived. They depend not only on systems and institutions, but also on the collective conscience of the community around them. How we care for those who cannot always advocate for themselves says much about who we are.
At Rotary Club of Queenstown, we are acutely aware of our own privilege. We live and work in a country where social structures function, where education, healthcare, and basic welfare are largely assured. This places us in a position not only of comfort, but of responsibility. Rotary’s guiding principle of Service Above Self reminds us that privilege finds its highest purpose when it is shared.
This spirit is reflected in RCQ’s projects, whether supporting children and families locally, standing alongside caregivers and the elderly, or extending help beyond our borders to communities facing far greater fragility. These efforts are not acts of charity alone; they are affirmations of dignity, solidarity, and humanity.
In choosing to serve the most vulnerable, we reaffirm Rotary’s core belief: that a society, and a club, is strongest when it looks after those who need it most, and that a strong community is one that makes room for everyone.■

Caring for the Caregivers:
Supporting Migrant Workers Caring for Persons with Dementia
On the occasion of the Club Assembly on Monday 19 January, PE Shikha introduced her signature project, nicknamed Project Lotus 2026-2027, outlining an initiative developed in partnership with Dementia Singapore to support and upskill migrant caregivers caring for persons living with dementia. PE Shikha’s project aims to upskill and support migrant caregiver workers in Singapore, who form the backbone of care for persons living with dementia.
The program will be delivered over four Sundays starting April 2026 and will provide hands-on vocational training, alongside practical techniques to help caregivers safeguard their mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
The curriculum spans understanding dementia, mental wellness, physical wellness, money, career, and technology; it also includes recreational activities (such as visits to iconic Singapore landmarks), acknowledging the importance of social exposure and respite for migrant caregivers. While locally focused, the project draws on global best practices from ageing societies worldwide in building resilient dementia care-giving structures. It reflects the Club’s commitment to meaningful, future-ready community impact.
